FaceTec and Police & Sheriffs Press partner to strengthen law enforcement identity verification

FaceTec has announced a partnership with Police & Sheriffs Press to introduce biometric identity verification technology into secure identification cards used by law enforcement agencies.

Announced on 21 October 2026, the collaboration will integrate FaceTec’s UR Code technology into identification products supplied by Police & Sheriffs Press, which serves more than 6,000 local, state, and federal agencies worldwide.

The development aims to strengthen protection against identity fraud, counterfeiting, and impersonation by combining physical identification credentials with digital biometric verification.

Introducing Biometric Verification to Identification Cards

FaceTec’s UR Code technology uses cryptographic security to connect an individual’s verified identity information with their biometric facial data.

The system incorporates this information within a QR code format that can be used on both physical and digital identification documents.

Unlike conventional identification cards, which primarily rely on visual inspection and physical security features, the technology allows identity information to be checked against the person presenting the credential.

FaceTec says the approach provides an additional layer of protection against fraudulent identification documents and unauthorised access.

Police & Sheriffs Press already manufactures secure identification cards incorporating holograms, microtext, and ultraviolet security features.

The integration will add biometric verification capabilities to its existing identification products.

Strengthening Security for Law Enforcement

“When we saw UR Codes for the first time, we knew that they offered the cryptographic binding of the identity information and the biometric data that we couldn’t add to a photo ID effectively any other way,” said Frank Raiford, Owner of Police & Sheriffs Press.

The companies say the technology can help law enforcement agencies verify identification documents across different jurisdictions, reducing the risk of lost, stolen, or counterfeit credentials being used for impersonation.

FaceTec has identified applications for the technology within the Albany County Sheriff’s Office, where identification cards can support verification of serving deputies.

It has also highlighted potential applications for verifying the credentials of retired officers through the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office.

Expanding Digital Identity Protection

Police & Sheriffs Press has already begun producing identification cards incorporating FaceTec’s UR Code technology.

The companies anticipate that the technology could be adopted by more than 6,000 law enforcement agencies within the next 24 months.

Beyond law enforcement, the technology has potential applications in sectors requiring secure identity verification, including government services, employment, education, and financial services.

FaceTec says UR Codes can be used to verify identity, age, and access permissions through a combination of digitally signed information and biometric authentication.

The partnership reflects increasing interest in combining physical identity documents with digital verification technology to improve security and reduce the risk of impersonation.
