Cohere launches Defence AI Accelerator in Singapore to support secure AI deployment

Cohere has announced the launch of a Defence AI Accelerator in Singapore, designed to help defence organisations and public-sector customers move artificial intelligence projects from initial development into secure, operational deployment.

Announced on 3 November 2026, the initiative will provide dedicated engineering expertise, technical resources and practical support to help organisations develop and implement sovereign AI applications in highly secure environments.

The Defence AI Accelerator will serve as a dedicated centre for defence-focused AI innovation, supporting customers throughout the development process, from proof-of-concept projects to fully operational systems.

Unlike conventional technology demonstration programmes, the initiative will focus on practical deployment, allowing organisations to experiment with Cohere’s AI models and its North agentic AI platform before integrating proven solutions into existing operational infrastructure.

Supporting secure AI adoption across the public sector

The accelerator forms part of Cohere’s wider strategy to expand its presence across the Asia-Pacific region.

The Canadian AI company plans to quadruple its regional presence by the end of 2027 through additional investment, local partnerships and new offices.

The Singapore initiative will strengthen Cohere’s collaboration with public-sector institutions and support organisations requiring advanced levels of data privacy, security and operational control.

Andrew Chang, Vice President of APAC at Cohere, said: “Across the region, governments and enterprises are moving beyond experimentation”

The company aims to help these organisations develop, test and scale AI systems while meeting demanding requirements for governance, security and operational reliability.

Providing flexible deployment options

Cohere’s sovereign AI platform is designed to give organisations greater control over their data, infrastructure and AI operations.

The technology supports on-premises, hybrid and fully air-gapped deployments, enabling sensitive AI workloads to operate within tightly controlled environments.

Through the accelerator, participating organisations will receive access to Cohere’s enterprise-grade North platform, alongside specialist engineering and deployment support.

The programme will provide practical assistance across several areas, including:

  • Engineering collaboration: Direct support from Cohere engineers to develop AI applications and transition projects into production.
  • Secure development environments: Facilities and resources for building, testing and validating AI applications for mission-critical operations.
  • Systems integration: Technical assistance to connect AI capabilities with existing applications, workflows and operational infrastructure.
  • Flexible infrastructure: Deployment options across on-premises, hybrid and air-gapped environments.
  • AI governance: Administrative controls and governance frameworks to support secure, responsible operation.
  • Enterprise AI capabilities: Access to Cohere’s AI models and North platform for complex workloads and larger-scale deployment.

Cohere said North has already demonstrated its ability to operate in security-sensitive environments through deployments with regulated organisations in Singapore.

Expanding sovereign AI capabilities

The launch comes as governments and enterprises across Asia-Pacific increase their focus on sovereign AI and the management of sensitive data.

According to market research cited by Cohere, IDC expects 80% of enterprises in the region to prioritise AI sovereignty for mission-critical workloads.

Cohere’s approach is intended to enable organisations to maintain greater control over where their data is processed, how AI systems are deployed and which administrative safeguards govern their operation.

Founded in 2019 and headquartered in Toronto, Cohere develops enterprise AI models and platforms for governments, regulated industries and other organisations with demanding security requirements.

The company operates internationally, including offices in London, Singapore, Tokyo, Berlin and New York.

With the establishment of its Singapore Defence AI Accelerator, Cohere aims to support the transition from AI experimentation to practical implementation across defence and other security-sensitive public-sector environments.
