Bloomberg launches AI assistant to accelerate financial data analysis and coding

Bloomberg has introduced a new artificial intelligence-powered coding assistant designed to help financial professionals analyse complex datasets, develop applications and streamline programming workflows.

Announced on 28 October 2026, BQuant Assistant is integrated into Bloomberg’s BQuant Desktop and BQuant Enterprise platforms, allowing eligible users to generate Python code and work with financial information using natural-language instructions.

The development aims to simplify quantitative analysis and reduce the technical barriers associated with building investment strategies and financial applications.

Bringing generative AI into financial workflows

BQuant Assistant operates within Bloomberg’s existing Python-based development environment, enabling financial professionals to interact with data and develop analytical tools without switching between applications.

Users can ask questions, generate Python code, retrieve information using Bloomberg Query Language and produce data visualisations.

The assistant can also explain existing code, support debugging and provide guidance on Bloomberg’s analytical libraries and development tools.

By drawing on Bloomberg’s financial data and product documentation, the system is designed to deliver responses relevant to specialised investment and quantitative workflows.

Maintaining control over AI-generated actions

The platform includes approval requirements designed to keep users in control of the actions performed by the assistant.

Before reading from or writing to an active notebook, BQuant Assistant identifies its proposed action and requests permission.

Approved code can then be inserted and executed within Bloomberg’s secure BQuant development environment.

Shawn Edwards, Bloomberg’s Chief Technology Officer, said the new assistant is intended to make complex financial data analysis more accessible to professionals with different levels of programming experience.

Expanding AI capabilities across Bloomberg

The launch forms part of Bloomberg’s wider investment in AI-powered financial technology and data services.

BQuant Assistant is scheduled to become generally available within BQuant Enterprise at the end of October 2026, alongside a limited beta release for BQuant Desktop.

The development demonstrates how specialised AI assistants are being incorporated into professional software to automate technical tasks, improve accessibility and support more efficient data-driven workflows.
